Producing your electricity and heat simultaneously with a CHP will cut your energy costs by up to 40%. As this leads, amongst other things, to lower CO2 emissions and less lost energy during transmission, it is also a more sustainable way of generating electricity. Furthermore, with an overall efficiency of around 90%, CHP units work much more efficiently compared to generating electricity and heat separately at power plants - because most electricity-generating power plants simply dispose of the unused generated heat. Combined Heat and Power units, on the other hand, actually use the waste heat generated during the electricity generation process to run heating systems.
