Energy-saving tips
Saving energy is not only sustainable and environmentally friendly, but it also helps cut your long-term costs. We’ve got some useful tips for you on how to keep your company’s energy costs as low as possible. Just by encouraging your employees to think consciously about their energy consumption will reduce energy costs.
There are, of course, a number of other possibilities. Arranging an energy audit or setting up an energy management system can reveal energy-saving potentials. But just by taking a few small steps, you and your employees can start to sustainably reduce the energy consumption at your company.
In the office and at your digital workspace
- Avoid leaving your computers in standby-mode. Pulling out the plug will also ensure that computers are really switched off.
- Turn off your WLAN router (if you have one) every evening and at weekends.
- Use just a simple black screensaver instead of an animated one.
Energy-efficient lighting
- Switch off the lights in rooms which are not in use. This is easy to do – just fit a motion sensor that automatically turns the lights off after a certain period.
- Use energy-efficient light sources, such as LEDs.
- Create as many workplaces as possible close to the window. This will help you avoid having to always switch the lights on.
Heating and cooling
- If your offices have air-conditioning, always close the windows and doors.
- Do not place any objects in front of the radiators. Reguarly remove the dust from inside the radiators.
- Turn off the heating when airing the rooms.
- If you use a cooling agent, then opt for one which is environmentally friendly with non-fossil carbon dioxide.
- Invest in good sunshades. These will keep your offices naturally cool.
- Install a timer for your heating that automatically turns it up and down according to season or opening hours (of course, only if the office space is not in all-day use).
Electronic appliances
- When buying new office appliances, such as printers, always look for those with the highest energy efficiency class.
- Replace old electrical appliances with new energy-efficient models.
- Have your appliances regularly serviced.
- Connect new electronic devices to your company’s energy management system.
More tips
- Wherever possible, produce your manufactured goods during low-rate times.
- Replace company cars with company bicycles. This not only helps reduce CO2 emissions, but you’ll also promote exercise and good health amongst your employees.
